World famous brands from Vitebsk

The city on the Dvina River, the capital of festivals in Belarus, the “second Paris” – it’s all about it, the beautiful Vitebsk. This Belarusian city has given the world probably the most talented and famous Belarusians. Kazimir Malevich, Marc Chagall, Yudel Pan, El Lissitzky, Lazar Hidekel. Many foreigners know Belarus particularly as the home of these outstanding artists.
But what does the average Belarusian know about them? For example, which of the above mentioned artists painted the ceiling of the Paris Grand Opera for French President Charles de Gaulle? Who opened a private drawing school in Vitebsk? Who contributed to the emergence of Suprematism in architecture? Who introduced the term “non-objectivity” and founded a new style of painting?
We want all residents of Belarus to be able to answer these questions without hesitation. After all, representatives of the avant-garde art association UNOVIS are the national pride of Belarus, our brand. In order to promote this brand, the team of the Association “BelBrand” discussed the prospects of cooperation and the implementation of joint projects with Valentina Kirillova, the founder of the museum “Vitebsk Centre of Contemporary Art”. Our organisations share a common philosophy and approach to business.
There was an opportunity not only to discuss the directions and details of the partnership, but also to get in touch with the art: accompanied by Valentina Kirillova, an experienced art historian and art expert from the Vitebsk association UNOVIS, we got acquainted with the works of Alexander Maley and David Yakerson.
